Delphis - Studio Mare, founded in 1991, is a small non profit organisation dedicated to the study, conservation and welfare of cetaceans in Italy through scientific research and education. Researchers and crew live on board the historic wooden sailing ship Jean Gab, designed by André Mauric and built in 1930, based in the attractive port of Casamicciola Terme, which is about 45 minutes by hydrofoil from Naples.

The Jean Gab sails out daily to the Canyon of Cuma. a deep underwater channel which is a feeding and breeding ground for dolphins and whales. The atmosphere on board is informal and relaxed. Dr Horace Dobbs, who sailed on the Jean Gab in May 2003, said, “Everybody mucks in. This small sailing laboratory gives those on board a unique opportunity to participate in valuable field work whilst enjoying an activity holiday on the beautiful island of Ischia which can be as energetic or lazy as you wish”
